On May 01, residents of Wolverhampton, mostly the youth, converged at the Wolverhampton art gallery for exhibition dubbed the ‘ArtForum session’, The huge gallery situated in the heart of the city has hosted programmes of this kind for years, and has harboured people from all walks of life. From parents, to residents, to local and international students, solely for the promotion of art, culture, and design. And as expected, it has succeeded in doing so. The ArtForum is one of many programmes that has happened over the years, and this month’s programme was absolutely breathtaking, as it gave artists the chance to showcase their arts, crafts, and designs to the public. This event was met with excitement, jubilation, and smiles, as the beauty of the crafts were beyond fascinating.

The highlight of the event was that it is was free for all, which meant, people, irrespective of their background trooped in to have a feel of what the artists had to offer. The inclusion of women in creating these wonderful arts, was not only lovely, but an inspiration for young girls, as well. The motive behind this was to promote diversity, project the intelligence of women and what they have to offer in this field. Given that it is known to be a male dominated area. Events like this one propel their confidence, serves as a breeding ground to boost their sales, and bring to light their small businesses. Future exhibition events see more female representations and inclusions. The event was filled with lots of ideas, fun moments, and meaningful interactions with other art lovers. It commenced an intriguing note and ended on an even more indulging note.

The event could not have come to an end without acknowledging the University of Wolverhampton art department’s involvement in making this a success. The Wolverhampton city council has prioritised art and fashion within its environs, and places like the Bilston craft gallery are also promoting contemporary arts. The University’s support for its art and fashion students has been encouraging the past few years. It has enabled a lot of its student achieve their dream of venturing into the world of art, and today, it can boast of having a hand in the career progression of some thriving artist within the West Midlands.

The event ended with a lot of visitors who had little or no knowledge about arts, and had no idea what to expect, a positive notion about arts. The organisers of the events have also taken into consideration to host programmes that will see children as young as 4-year-old into paintings. This is capable of improving their drawing, writing and intellectual skills and nurture their artistic talents as they grow. I also asked about the inclusion of the disabled, and my idea was taken into consideration.
I departed the event with my aims accomplished. I was given the opportunity to ask as many questions as possible, which were answered to my satisfaction. I was informed of the dates of future events of this nature, which will project the works of female and young people.
