As of the 12 of the March the “Track your case” service has been taken down on the West Midlands Police site.

A statement on the site reads

“As part of our ongoing website improvement programme, we are rolling out a number of new services. As a result, track your case is no longer available for new crime reports.”

Residents have been in touch with councillors regarding their concerns with the service being removed.

Paul Sweet councillor for Bushbury and Low hill in Wolverhampton was recently made aware of the West midlands police site and service changes taking place that have impacted users’ ability to track cases.

The issue came to his attention after receiving an email complaint last week from a constituent that was no longer able to track a crime they had reported.

He said it is “Hard to say how this will affect constituents, before we have seen what it will be replaced with.”

The councillor thought it was worth noting that the former service to track your crime was “never really considered a completely functioning and effective tool, so hopefully it will be replaced with a more effective aid for people attempting to report and track cases.”

He went on to say “we have a decent track record of communication and working with our local officers so hopefully when new things come into place we will be made aware quite quickly.”

Louise Miles, another councillor for Wolverhampton, has been made aware of the change to the tracking service but only through comment rather than a formal complaint.

She stated that she hopes “some form of replacement service is set up soon as the constituents that are reporting crimes can often be left feeling vulnerable, and being able to see the progression of the report made can reinforce their faith that the system works.”

It remains to be seen what the full replacement for this service will be. As it stands those looking to track a case are able to submit an online request form and await correspondence on the matter.
